DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Mortgage Loan Officer (MLO) proactively solicits new residential mortgage business and identifies, develops and maintains a quality network of business relationships that serves as a recurring source of referrals for new mortgage lending opportunities.  An MLO’s network may consist of real estate professionals, builders, professional and personal contacts, as well as other valuable referral sources. The MLO ensures exceptional customer service by maintaining thorough knowledge of lending programs, policies, procedures and regulatory requirements, complying with all federal and state compliance policies and adhering to HMDA requirements.   It is the policy of our bank to comply with the interagency rules implementing the Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008, generally known as the SAFE Act.   All employees meeting the definition of MLO must be registered with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System & Registry (NMLS).

The incumbent will:

  • Assist client in determining the proper loan program
  • Complete mortgage applications for submission to loan processing and underwriting
  • Provide required initial disclosures within the given time frame set by compliance
  • Establish a detailed marketing/business plan which includes names of potential and existing loan customers, realtors, builders and developers; include frequency of contact in the plan
  • Promote and cross-sell other products and services as appropriate to client requirements
  • Conduct networking activities such as community events, attending local Chambers of Commerce meetings, developing relationships with centers of influence and entertaining clients/prospects to enhance relationships and create new sales
  • Evaluate loan requests, analyze financial data and determine qualification of collateral and client credit history
  • Structure loans to comply with acceptable lending practices and federal and state regulations
  • Maintain contact with client throughout the loan process
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Two (2) years of mortgage lending experience with proven mortgage production
  • Previous experience using automated underwriting technology preferred
  • Basic knowledge of bank operations and products
  • FHA/VA experience required
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations regarding lending and related consumer disclosure requirements
  • Excellent knowledge of agency guidelines
  • Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to carry out instructions, understand procedures and write correspondence
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Excellent customer service and time management skills
  • Ability to multitask, as shown in previous experience as a processor completing tasks under time constraints
  • Good organizational skills and ability to develop basic understanding of underwriting guidelines
  • Good data entry/keyboarding and math skills
